International Yoga Day 2025 Celebrated with Enthusiasm at AISSMS SSPM Primary Day School
AISSMS SSPM Primary Day School enthusiastically celebrated International Yoga Day 2025 on June 19th, two days ahead of the official date (June 21st being a holiday). The celebration saw active participation from both students and teachers, transforming the school’s activity hall into a vibrant hub of wellness and mindfulness.
The programme for the International Yoga Day celebration was meticulously planned and outlined by the esteemed Headmistress, Mrs. Shanti Chareja. Her vision was to introduce students to the benefits of yoga in an engaging and age-appropriate manner.
Prior to the main activities, teachers briefed students on the profound importance of yoga in fostering a strong body and a calm mind. This introductory session laid the groundwork for the practical exercises that followed, emphasizing the holistic benefits of the ancient practice.
The celebration commenced with a series of warm-up exercises designed to prepare the young participants. These included gentle neck rolls, shoulder rolls, arm stretches, and toe touches, ensuring students were comfortably eased into the physical activities. Following the warm-ups, students were introduced to basic yoga poses, cleverly presented with fun and memorable names to capture their imagination. Crucially, the benefit of each asana was explained, helping students understand the purpose behind each movement. Breathing exercises, such as “balloon breathing,” were also introduced, highlighting the importance of breath control in yoga. To further enhance the calming and mindful aspects of yoga, students were guided through simple chanting exercises. Chanting ‘Om’ or ‘Sa-Ta-Na-Ma’ while touching different fingers helped students experience a sense of tranquillity and mindfulness, fostering inner peace.
The celebration incorporated interactive games to make the program more engaging and enjoyable for the young participants. “Yoga Freeze” proved to be a particular favourite. Students attentively listened to music, and when the music stopped, the teacher would declare a yoga pose, prompting students to “freeze” in the said asana. This game not only encouraged quick reflexes but also reinforced their knowledge of various poses.
Another captivating activity was “The Story Time with Yoga.” This unique approach combined storytelling with physical movement, requiring students to be attentive listeners and then perform corresponding yoga poses based on the narrative. This activity successfully fostered attentiveness and imagination while integrating physical activity.
The activity hall itself contributed to the festive atmosphere, adorned with various hand-coloured pictures of asanas created by the students, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm for the event.
In essence, the International Yoga Day celebration at AISSMS SSPM Primary Day School successfully achieved its goal of making students aware of the importance of yoga in everyday life, all delivered through a play-way and highly interactive manner. The event underscored the school’s commitment to promoting holistic development and well-being among its students.
